He promised to keep the daughter of a man he trusted safe. He journeys with the girl’s mother, Cyridel Elendsah, an Ellúndar Princess of the Míran kingdom-city of Ilhivendal. It is a hard road they follow.

They say travelers can hear music on the wind as it blows from the south, a song from a girl on the Greencliffs of Wilhimusk. Her name is Nialla, a child carried by the threads of fate, and the daughter of Galron and Cyridel. She arrived over twenty years ago after the battle with the Crows at Mireaderal, finding a home where she once had none.
Sackery remains her staunch defender—Master Greywolfe, as those in the village call him. He spends his days training the Jhalamar in the martial traditions of the Vedrethal, dutiful warrior-servants and scholars that served the Vedreron of the First Era.
Life on the frontier is simple and honest, far from long journeys and political strife, until the peace is upended by sudden tragedy. Sackery must guide his sworn company in their first true challenge against an ancient foe who sought them out where they felt safest. Nialla confronts a great loss while her mother, Cyridel, contends with a mysterious figure.
